Northern California Rover Club - Club Calendar
Bill Burke Offroad Workshop Weekend - June 22-23, Cow Mountain OHVRA, near Ukiah
Come learn some serious offroad driving and recovery secrets with noted Camel Trophy veteran and Rover guru Bill Burke! This two day workshop will be packed with useful information and will allow lots of time for your questions during this hands on "in the field" workshop event. In addition to driving, winching and other recovery tricks, the class will also cover common Rover field repairs as well as many other offroad driving issues. The workshop will be organized to help the beginner but will also cover info useful to the advanced offroader.
At this time, the 10 vehicle spots reserved for this event are taken, but there are still seats available. If you
choose to come up and camp, you will need to bring your vehicle to the
staging area/camp spot. Bill will be in and out of the vehicles during the
whole event, so everyone, including those not driving the vehicles, will
still take part in all phases of instruction. We may also offer a night
drive and your truck is welcome. Those riding will not be passive observers
and will take part in all recovery techniques too.
The cost per person for this weekend workshop is $195.00 paid in advance. At this time we need 13 people to sign up to cover the costs associated with hosting this special event and we also need to give Bill a deposit sometime before the 2nd week in May to insure the dates of the event.
Due to the fact we must place a 50% deposit with Bill Burke and book air fare to bring him out to the Bay Area our cancelation policy is limited. We will need to fill your spot prior to offering a refund and no cancelations after the 16th of June.
Make checks payable to NCRC and send to Michael Sewell P.O. Box 811 Forest Knolls CA 94933, or contact Mike via email to make specific payment arrangements.
CAMPING, DIRECTIONS
Directions to Cow Mt., take 101 North to Ukiah (2 hours North of S.F.).
Exit Talmage Road and turn right. Go to the end (Buddhist Center) and
turn right and go .25 of a mile or so and take the first left after the
Buddhist Center. You are now on Mill Creek Road. Take this all the way
to Cow Mt. OHVRA (5 miles). Note; don't turn left on the road to the
North Cow Mt. area, we are at South Cow Mt..
Bill and Mike Sewell are going up Friday to scout more.
The only good campsite that will fit our group is Red Mountain. It is
well marked off the main road about one mile past the staging area. It
is first come first serve and we will try to hold the whole place. If
we are beat out by another group the only other camping that might fit
us is Mayacmas in the North Cow Mt. area. You must go back down Mill
Creek and take the North Cow Mt. Road. Look there if we are not at Red
Mt. The odds are good we will get the Red Mt. Camp. Stay on CH
7 to reach the group. Remember, you must bring your own water to Cow
Mt. (there are vault toilets only). Also, we will do an informal group
dinner Saturday night so bring something to share. If you are taking a
motel in Ukiah, you will still want to hang out at camp where the
action is! The workshop will start at the campsite at 9:00 AM sharp on
Saturday. I will be giving out BLM maps of Cow Mt. OHVRA at the dinner
event.
Just a side note: Bill is exited about working with our club and will
be bringing tee shirts to commemorate the event. He has also arranged
with venders some gratis off road goodies!
