Although relatively little mining has been done there in the last hundred plus years, New Idria was at its peak well before the Gold Rush in California of the 1840s and 60s. It was actually a Spanish and Mexican operation, part and parcel of the New Almaden mine that lies to the north. This is a "wander around" sort of event to explore the area and its trails.
