Road Trip to Rock Crawl - October 19-20, Red Mountain Lake
In need of some Rovering? Interested in a "quick" road trip for a little
rock crawling and an excuse to enjoy primitive alpine camping this Fall?
Well, now is your chance!
Saturday October the 19th we will be departing from the Bay Area at 8:00 AM
and headed for the solitude of the Sierra National Forest. Depending on the
size of our group, we should make base camp around 3:00 PM.
The destination is Red Mountain Lake which is just NE of scenic Shaver Lake.
We will camp at high altitude just below the towering peak of Red Mtn.,
elevation 9,874 feet. The Red Mountain route is not long. However, it entails
slow paced rock crawling.
This trail is NOT suitable for stock Land Rovers.
Minimum Vehicle Requirements:
31' All-Terrain tires
Seventeen inches of clearance with rock sliders
Front and rear recovery points
Participants will also need to pass the basic NCRC vehicle inspection, show
proof of current automobile insurance, and sign the standard NCRC Liability
Waiver.
On Sunday morning, for those interested in potential Rover carnage, there is
a gonzo trail that continues beyond Red Mtn. Lake. This 3.5 mile challenge
leads to another magnificent high country destination called Coyote Lake.
Sunday's final departure time is open to group consensus.
