Ham Radio Work Weekend - August 16-17, Eldorado
National Forest
The 2nd major Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR) work weekend is August 16-17
at the west end of the Rubicon Trail. We will probably camping at Loon
Lake, more details to follow. This is north of Hwy. 50 in the Eldorado
National Forest, west of Lake Tahoe in Northern California.
We need at least 6 hams, preferable more.
Not only is this a useful public service it is excellent radio
practice. I think all who participated in the first NCRC Communication
Group effort had a good time and felt they improved their operating
skills.
There is not a need to be able to drive the Rubicon, the need is for HT
and/or mobile radio capability so we can provide communications between
multiple work groups (those doing the heavy lifting) and the command
post at Loon Lake. I'll be setting up Spot with his 20' vertical
antenna at the CP and hope to have enough volunteer operators to put a
radio with each work group and have extra hams to spell them or roam as
the need arises.
There will be volunteers working on the trail from a broad cross section
of the OHV community. Let's make sure the Land Rover community makes a
good showing as well.
When: August 16th and 17th
Where: Eldorado National Forest
